I have struggled with my weight since I can remember. After having my twins in November of 2017, I have gained some weight. I’m not at my heaviest I’ve ever been. I look and feel much heavier than I am. Nothing seems to fit right even if it does “fit.” I mean I look pregnant
I had an appointment scheduled with my primary care for something unrelated. The day before my appointment it hit me, could I have diastasis recti?? She started to exam me but mentioned that it’s more common in woman who have large babies. I reminded her that my last pregnancy was twins who were both over 6 lbs. That was also only 2 years after big sister was born weighing in at 9.4lbs. She definitely seemed more concerned after that.
Sure enough I was diagnosed with diastasis recti, I left with a referral to physical therapy. I start next week and I sure hope it helps.
What is diastasis recti? It’s a separation of your abdominal muscles allowing your organs to bulge out. To me it basically sounds like a giant hernia. This makes you look like you’re still pregnant.
I’m happy to have an answer and hope PT will help resolve it! It’s incredibly embarrassing to look like this. I can’t believe I let it go on this long.
